ISLAND ENCOUNTERS

Voyages of adventure and exploration throughout the Caribbean and the Yucatan Peninsular.

Through this portal is a world of adventure. The ketch 'Encounter' is lying at anchor just waiting for a new heading and its guests to arrive then the adventures can begin!

ImageEverybody has an adventure locked away inside them. It doesn't have to be the boldest challenge ever undertaken: For most people simply getting well away from civilization is sufficient and 'Encounter' is at her best when civilization is just a blur in the distance. But, if it is a bold challenge that you are seeking then 'Encounter' may be just the partner that you need.

Adventure travel encompasses many formats. Simply sailing between the Caribbean islands is adventurous enough for many people but, after the sailing comes the exploration.

Underwater exploration, whether snorkeling or using scuba, opens a window to some of the most diverse habitats available on the planet. Combinations of geology and geography interact to produce an endless variety of ecosystems each with its own unique occupants. The open ocean on the eastern seaboard rapidly abates to become the sheltered bays and coral reefs that are the popular image of the Caribbean islands. This sudden transformation offers the underwater explorer the chance to experience an incredibly diverse world that ranges from the open ocean, with its submerged cliffs plunging to depths beyond comprehension, to the complexities of the coral reefs, where life seems to exude from every conceivable crevice.Image

Island Encounters is now based on the Yucatan peninsular of Mexico. This location gives us access to some of the most diverse and unspoit marine environments available in the Wider Caribbean Region. Encounter II, a 20' launch, provides access to the coastal regions of the peninsular.

No visit to the Yucatan peninsular would be complete without an exploration of the Mayan archeological sites. These sites are found throughout a region that includes the counties of Belize, Guatemala and Honduras as well as the Mexican states of Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Yucatan.
